Hydrolocked engine; rebuild or replace?

Hydrolocked engine; rebuild or replace?
Unfortunately, on Monday, my engine hydrolocked during a storm (which is ironic because I had planned to put it up for sale that day--guess that's what I get for trying to replace her). It bent a rod and the engine is toast. So, I called my insurance company and they said to have a mechanic quote how much it will cost to have it fixed. At this point, is it better to just replace with a new engine or have them rebuild it? I haven't gotten a chance to tow it to a shop to have them quote it yet. Also, has anyone had any experience with insurance claims after having an engine hydrolock? From what I've read, they do cover this; I'm just worried because if they don't I'm pretty ****ed.

I would inquire if they will attach a "rebuilt" title to the car if you file the claim, this has happened to other owners and would certainly lower the value of the car. Stupid rules that they follow but they have to. Good luck.

I predict the insurance company totals your car once they hear the number for the repair.

Sorry for your loss.
Cold air intake near road level I assume? I was always afraid of that years ago with my V6 Accord cold air intake and had a valve of some sort fitted that would open if there was too much vacuum in the air intake.
You'll have to balance the lost value of the car with a rebuilt title vs rebuilding the engine on your own dime.

im sorry for your accident. I lived in tx for 2 years and in those 2 years progressive replaced the engine both flood times with used engines. they even knew I was lowered. On the 2nd one I was looking at another car thinking they wouldn't cover it. They surprised me with a phone call that the car will be ready in 2 weeks by the Honda dealer. I have paperwork showing all they did. good luck!

Considering book value vs repair cost, an engine alone shouldn't be enough to total an S2000
