Default IAC

Ok, so I did some searching and just have a couple questions I couldn't find.

Of course everyone knows that sometimes the idle on these cars can be weird due to the ECU. Well I have had this problem now for about four months and it has never gotten better. I've cleaned air filter, done the map whack, and everything else I could think of....never got better though. Well just the other day my check engine light came on so I went to go see what code it was going to give me and it was P0505-obviously the IAC. This almost seemed like a relief because most likely this was the problem the whole time.

Now I know it isn't too expensive of a part, and fairly simple of an install...but I was curious if cleaning the thing first will help me out at all?? Or has it just finally gone bad on me and time to buy a new one?

Thanks for you help in advance...

Have you tried removing and cleaning the IAC?

Not yet, thats what I wanted to get some opinions on first. I know this is one of the things done to help fix the idle problem, but I sorta figured since its causing my check engine light to come on that maybe the whole thing has just gone to crap? When I get some time I will go clean that out first though, reset everything, and see if it still throwing me the code. If so, time for a new IAC. Thanks

Mine was semi dirty but didnt make any noticeable idle changes, some have reported that it has helped though.
