Default Ideal Oil level

I checked my oil this weekend and had a question pop into my head. What is the ideal oil level at the check?

Currently my oil level is half way on the tip of the dip stick's measuring area.

Am I low high or right where I need to be? If I am low how much oil do I need to put into the engine to make it at the proper level.

Thanks in advance for the advice.

The area between the L and H represents 1 U.S. Qt. So, if you're half way down, you need .5 quarts to fill it up.

Anywhere between the L and H is fine, unless you track the car in which case I wouldn't let it get too close to the L. If it were bad to run the car with oil near the L, Honda would have moved the L up further on the dip stick.

Are you sure that he needs to be adding oil? Filling his oil up half a quart would put him right at the high marking on the dipstick, which is not the ideal oil level.

I believe i read in the owners manual that at the ideal oil level, the oil will read directly in the middle of the dipstick between the low and high markings, right where the original poster said his oil level was at.
