Default idle problems

my cd player stopped playing cds out of the blue so i decided to disconnect the positive on the battery to reset it. after i did this the idle started giving me problems. when the car is in neutral the rpms fall to about 200 and the car shakes like its going to stall. then it catches itself and does it over again. has this happened to anyone or does anyone know how to fix it?
thanks, chris

It will do that the very first time you start the car after disconnecting the battery because you have also reset the ECU. Now the ECU has to re-learn new parameters, one if them is an idle learn. So it is normal for the idle to do that the first time. Does it still do it after every start? If it does then there is a problem. If its only one time then i would not worry about it.

I know this is too late, but the next time you want to disconnect power to reset something, you should simply pull the fuse that is associated with that accessory. Also, if you must disconnect something at the battery, it's better to do the negative terminal.
Also, check to see if for some reason, you blew the ECU "BACK UP" fuse. It's in the under the dash fuse panel. A lumpy low idle like what you describe is exactly what it's like if you were to drive with that fuse pulled out. Generally speaking, "resetting" the ECU will put the idle parameters to "default". This is not a low, lumpy idle. It's much like on the first drive home from the dealer. I've reset my ECU (as well as others) many times and the idle does not come back weird.
