But I in fact was under the impression that I had removed the seal and cleaned away the extra oil drippings. This it's my fault that I did not double check, I'm just glad I had the help to guide myself where to check again.

The write up was excellent as they are whenever I use them. Just my own negligence, but we learn from our mistakes though.
Ehh...it happens...no harm no foul....first change in a new car is always more interesting. I just did mine this last weekend. Was so obsessing about getting the big things done I forgot a little thing. I left my wheel chocks behind my tires. Was wondering why it was so hard to back up.......finally figured it out but not before I left two gouges in my friends garage floor.... Silly things happen, and I know you'll never forget to check the gasket again....

<-------------------has proof that wheel chocks work

OK, just wanted to make sure others didn't think I left something out (which I can sometimes do ).

ps. I did exactly what you did on my old Viper. Double gasket, filled it with 9 liters of oil, started it up and huge pool of goo under the car. I'm sure we've all done it or something like it. But I'm willing to bet you'll never do it again.

I've done this too (not in my S though), but I wasn't so lucky. It didn't decide to blow all the oil out until I was halfway home. Dumped 5 quarts right at the approach to an intersection.
