Default Jump Start Idiot -HELP

Okay, this is not for my S2k.

Typical Reverse Battery Hoookup!

My roommate wanted to jumpstart his car for him.

I have done this a million times, but this time it was really dark and I wasn't paying close attention.

Hooked up the jump cables to my saab. Then the negative to a metal ground on his car. And the positive to the negative!!!

DOH DOH DOH

Needless to say it wouldn't jump start shit.

Battery cables started smoking. Shut off cars.

Got it setup right and the car started.

Did I screw up my car?

Did I screw up my roommates car?

Both cars started up fine etc. Doesn't appear to be damage.

HELP HELP!

You should be fine but keep a close eye on it for a few days. How long did you have the wire connected wrong?

Three or four minutes. And damn those cables were hot. Would it only be the battery? Or could i have F'd up the electrical systems.

Ouch... I would inspect the battery for any leakage. Your electrical system should be alright since just about everything is fused, not 100% sure though.

His car (the jumped car) should be fine. Yours (battery) is the one that you need to keep an eye on. Basically, what you did was short circuited your own battery (connected the + and - terminals of your battery together). It should have sparked like crazy when you touched the final connection and may have put a divot in your friends battery terminal, but that's no big deal. Shorting out your own battery should not have affected any of the components beyond the battery itself.
