Just Took Possession
Hello. Looking for some helpful advice. I bought a 2004 with 67,000 miles. My boss's kid is a decent mechanic, he wants to "get it ready" for me. He ordered the following:
Oil Filter & Mobil 1 5w40
New Serpentine Belt - (old one looked tired, shiny on the outside)
Some blue coolant, not sure what it is, but that's what is currently in it.
He wanted to put plugs in it, I told him to pull one and look at it. If I don't know when the prior owner last replaced them, what do you guys recommend?
Car has a K&N cold air on it, kid tells me the weather stripping material is shot. He ripped what was left of it off and told me I can order new.
Engine starts right away, runs and shifts flawlessly, anything else I should have him look at? Is the kid about to do any harm?

+ Differential fluids as well. And don't forget the OEM oil filter, and drain/fill bolt washers too.
Unless previous owner gave you records of prior maintenances, changing everything fresh would be a good starting point.

I just purchased my 05 w/ 67k miles too!
Here's what I've done to get mine where I want:
- Oil change w/ Mobil 1 10w30 extended performance (5.1 quarts)
- New Honda OEM oil filter
- New Honda OEM cabin air filter
- 4 new NGK 7772 spark plugs (doing a spark plug change regardless of current running condition is a good indicator of how your engine has been running in the past). I bought 6 plugs in case 1 or 2 came gapped incorrectly from the factory but the first 4 I checked were already correctly gapped
. Pulling only a single plug won't give ALL of the information [albeit a decent indicator] but if you want to only check 1 I would recommend pulling cylinder 4 plug (closest to firewall).
- Coolant change (I dilute pure coolant myself with distilled water [available at grocery store] down to 50/50)
- Transmission fluid change with Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (really needs to be Honda fluid, make sure he gets the correct one!)
- Differential fluid change with Mobil 1 75w90 gear oil (other members prefer other fluids... check out some other threads regarding fluid choice)
- New crush washers for all fill/drain bolts
- Clutch fluid change with some good NEW brake fluid
- Brake fluid exchange/bleed with some good NEW brake fluid
- Check/adjust tire pressure
Please be sure to dispose of all old fluid wastes appropriately
