UGHHH

I've been trying to install a larger radiator fan all day with no luck. No matter what I do, I keep blowing fuses!

Basically, I'm using a relay to feed the fan power from the battery since it pulls too much load for the stock wiring.

Relay:

Here's how it's wired:
86 - Switch, the power wire that went to the old radiator fan +12V (I believe it's yellow / blue on one side and solid blue on the other, just for reference)
85 - Ground to chasis
87 - 30A fuse +12V to battery
30 - Positive wire to fan

Negative wire from fan is grounded to stock radiator fan ground



Due to some ignorance, I think I wired up the relay incorrectly the first time and blew the radiator fan fuse thats located in the under the hood fuse box. Once I figured out my wiring mishap (it's now wired as mentioned above), I keep blowing the 30A fuse that comes directly from the battery.

The fan manufacturer recommends using a 40A relay and a 30A fuse so I'm within their specs.


Could I have blown my relay, when I screwed up the wiring originally, which is now causing my main fuse to blow?

I'm starting to go nuts...


BTW, I know the fan works. When I connect it straight to the battery (through a 30A fuse), it works perfectly which leads me to believe I messed up the relay

looks like its wired right. the relay could be bad and ground out 87
