Default Keys and Fobs

Hello everyone,

This is my first official post here other than the brief introduction so here goes.

I have 2 keys for the car, one black and one grey, the grey is my spare. I also received a fob which has 3 button functionality i.e unlock, lock and boot unlock. The other fob I got has two buttons which unlock and lock the car.

Now my issue is that the 3 button fob seems to be ideal as it unlocks all however I cant start the car with it, I need the other fob to start the car. I can unlock the car with the 2 button fob however it doesn't look at nice as the other and the buttons seem a little fragile. I don't really like having a set of keys the size of Neptune.

Is this the same for everyone or do I have a borked fob(3 button).

Cheers and I hope my waffle makes sense.

Mike

I don't follow.. you don't need the fobs at all to start the car. Just the key.

That is what I thought, however when I unlock the car and put they key in the ignition turn it so everything is on the push start has no effect, it only seems to work when i use the fob with two buttons on it.

I wonder if the two button fob you have is for an aftermarket alarm. A lot of aftermarket alarms have an electron ignition lock that will not let you start the car unless the alarm is disarmed. I'm guessing when you press "unlock" on the second remote it disarms the electronic ignition lock.

Personally, I hate poorly installed aftermarket alarms and would rip out whatever you have in there and install one correctly if you really wanted/needed an alarm.

That would make sense, I neither need nor want it so it shall be removed it.

Thanks
