Locking Cams into Vtec

I have driven S2000s with locked assemblies/killer cams.
They literally feel like the tailpipe is stuffed with bananas. The car was slow and throttle response was horrible.

I have thought about the reduced oil flow to the cams, with the vtec locked. This is one reason I am asking if anyone has had any success with locking vtec, before I try it. There are Youtube videos of someone that locked Vtec in an S, but they only had the car idling. No follow up if the engine stayed together.
Seems like any potential negative, even if it's remote, isn't worth it given it's only taking some performance away (however unlikely it is you'll use low RPM torque), and there are zero benefits to it.

The common and sensible way to go about this is to force vtec to come on through the ECU, whether you piggy back it with a simple AFC NEO, E-manage or go full blown EMS, either way it makes no sense to mechanically lock the cams in place and lose performance all the way up until the engine breathing can make use of the cam profile which is generally no lower then 3500rpms.
The engine makes full oil pressure as low as about 3k rpms.
