Thats what I was thinking as long as the car gets up to operating temps it should be fine. Even if the car over heats it will still switch to VTEC.

This is strange I am thinking it's ECU, or wiring.

is there any oil leaking around the VTEC solenoid?
if so you would need to replace the gasket.

If it is going above 6k rpms then vtec is engaging. From reading your post IMHO you should seek professional assistance.

I have a spare solenoid here if you need to get another. When I purchased this one I had to wait 2 weeks because there were only 3 in the ocuntry all located in california.

Could i just need a valve adjustment? The car DOES NOT sound the same when VTEC engages. I would guess that it maybe kicks in HALF as hard as normal. It is also a different pitch/sound.

I also changed my oil/filter last week and noticed the problem a day or two later. I used Quaker State 5w30 full syn and a K&N oil filter. I have never tried quaker state, but have heard it was alright. I almost always use Mobil 1/Castrol full synthetic. I don't know if this will help determine, just figured i'd include this information.

VTEC engages when you are at, or above, certain load, throttle position, oil pressure and other criteria, AND if you are at, or above, the engagement point near 6000 rpm. If a full set of the other conditions are not present, you will not be in VETC regardless of the rpm of the motor.
Trust me I have alot of experince with loss of vtec. Check some of my posts from a year ago.
