loud slapping/tapping from engine..
hey friends
here we go i have a 2000 s2k with 64k miles,i was testing out my 4.77 gears and wanted to see what my top speed would be with new gears any ways i was at around 8k rpm in 6th gear when car just felt like it ran out of gear so i put it in neutral and come to a stop and make a u turn thats when i start hearing loud slapping/tapping sound so i just turn off car and get it towed home.I pulled oil pan and found no shavings of metal cheaked rod bearings and they are all good now im worrried its the crank bearing but dont know how to cheak that one,was also going to change timing chain tensioner,also i removed valve cover and looked for cracked retainers and everything looks fine.any other places i should be looking?but i really need help cheaking the crank bearing..

Could you describe more by what you mean "car just felt like it ran out of gear". If you just installed the 4.77s then I think you should look there first. But you said the sound was comming from the engine, so I'm a little confused.

I had the same feeling on my rex a month ago. was on the track though. I hit redline while upshifting out of corner.. gosh it hold for like forever although for 1 sec..
Then by the next corner, it was tapping louder and louder..
Had it torn open and crank shaft gone and 2 conrods gone. Bearings, valve seals, gaskets, O-rings, etc.. replaced!
