Default Maint Req'd light came on...

As i was driving back home from work my "maintenace required" light came on right at 63750. I dont have an owner's manual because I bought the car used but I know in the user's manual it usually sez when the maintenance light comes on for routine maintenance. I'm thinking it's coming on to remind me to take my car in for a checkup by 65,000, is there any info in the owner's manual about this? Right now I'm strapped for cash and I'm hoping that's why the light came on because I can't afford a big repair. Thankz

Yes, oil change/ regular maintenance. Reset it by turning key and holding the trip button or something like that.

If you don't know when the last oil change was, you should at the very least, do this. When you buy a used car, you should always check into (and do) all the maintenance stuff up to that point in the car's life. You can never be sure if the previous owner did any of it.
That maintenance light does not necessarily mean anything. All it means is that it was reset about 7000 miles ago. It doesn't mean that any work was done about 7000 miles ago. Most people know about this light, go by their own schedule and just ignore the light. They just reset it when it comes on.

ps. You nearest service interval IS 63,750 miles. Your next one is 67,500. If you go by the book, it is not on the 5000 mile interval. You really should get an owner's manual or Helm manual.

Thanks for your inputs i was really worried for a day there, once again the s2ki board come through for me. I changed the oil right when I got it at 58,000 and again at 64,000 so I think im ok in that department. How do i get rid of the light now? I tried that turn the key until all the lights on the dash come on then I pressed the trip button but it didn't turn off. Am I doing something wrong?

You have to push and hold the trip reset, THEN turn the key on until the lights come on and off.

It's quite a simply procedure but I did a "How To" anyway:
