Maintenance Minder at 20%
question for 06 owners and pre 06 owners. what happens if you haven't reached 7500 miles and the MMS is at 0%. do you wait till the car is at 7500 or you change the oil when it hits 0%? the reason for the question i want to switch to synthetic at 7500 miles since that's what most of you says but i don't want the MMS at 0% for 2 months before i change the oil. i have 4400 miles at the moment and it should take me 8-10 weeks to do another 3100 miles.
i've talked myself out of changing to synthetic at 7500. i'm thinking change the oil at 5k and switch it at 10k. what do you think?

this is what i just did last week yesterday...
My car has 3215 miles my MMS shows 40%. i have always done break in untill 3K then do an oil change reguardless of year make or model it's something that i just do and so far it's been good to me in the long run any way...
I changed the oil and didn't reset the MMS. when the MMS says it's due i will then do another oil change. It figures out every 500miles it drops 10% but after 3000 miles it goes down. the MMS is not accurate it's a guesstimate if you ask me.
500 miles = 10% drop.
after 3000 miles it's more like 400 miles = 10% drop. it assumes that after 3000 miles the oil is already past it's half life and calculates based on a decaying chart.
I just do 3K oil change it's alwasy been my rule of thumb but i won't reset the MMS so i know exactly what code it will say to do, and not cause any mix up.

i'm with you brother, but when to change the oil on a new motor opens a can of worms.
i am at 2100 miles and 60%. if i were you, change it at 5000 with dino oil, reset the minder and wait for it to reach 20% or so and switch to synthetic.
btw, i am changing my diff fluid at 2500 to LE607.

If the MMS is at 0% change the oil ASAP. It's not going to hurt anything to run dino oil untill you are are above 7500 miles.
BTW, the new RDX comes factory filled with Mobil 1 synthetic.

Before I was aware of Honda's suggestion, I changed out my oil at around 3000 to Mobil 1 10W-30. Now I'm at around 5,300 mi. and no issues with oil consumption or other problems. I just did my second oil change because of time (1yr.). The AP2 doesn't seem to be as prone to using oil as the AP1.
I also changed out my diff fluid last weekend to LE607. At around 5,200 mi. the old fluid didn't look bad at all. There were some fine metal particles on the drain plug but nothing to worry about. Be sure to warm up the LE607 prior to working with it, it's thick!
