Default maintenance required

my cars got around 19,200 miles on it. When I start the car maintenance required blink on and off about 6 times then goes off. It started the other day when it rained really bad out here and some our streets were flooded. I really didn't drive in to much of the flooded water but had to for a brief 10 seconds. What exactly causes that light to go off? I know how to turn it off but I'm just curious what sets that thing off. Also is there a check engine light on our cars?? Thanks.

Only thing that sets it off is a timer. Has nothing to do with driving circumstrances or if maint. was done or not.

Yes, we have a CEL (check engine light) little yellow engine symbol

It goes by miles traveled since the last time the light was reset.

I'm glad to see he's taking over where I left off.
