Default Maintenance Required light?

This probably a dumb question. I have only owned my car a few months and I like to look after it. This evening when I started it up the yellow maintenance required light came on. I know I am about due for an oil change but I don't recall resetting it when I did my last oil change which was the same day I purchased it. What typically sets this light off?

The light blinks every 5000 or so miles, I'm not sure. Nothing "sets" its off, it's simply controlled by the milage. You can reset it by:
1. Holding down the trip button
2. Turning the key to the "on" position
3 Hold for 20 seconds. It should reset.

If I'm incorrect, do a search. There are numerous threads on the topic. I'm pretty sure that's the procedure though...! Hope you are enjoying the car so far*

Thanks for the response. I did a search and you are correct. Many threads on the subject. I will reset it. I am just ultra sensitive when it comes to my s2000.

So I cranked my car up tonight and my maintenance required light was blinking,5 times or so, and then went off. I drove around for a while then when I went to park it I decided to turn they key to the on position and watch all my lights and it blinked again. Any help please?

Please don't bump such old threads on things that have been covered a million times. A simple google search would've yielded you your answer. And had you read this thread, it has already been explained....but here it is again....

The maintenance required light is an automatic light that comes on in 7500 mile or so increments. 500 miles before the mark, it will flash on start-up and then go off. Once you reach the mark, it'll come on and stay on. It is not a sign of anything wrong and has no bearing on performance. To reset on an AP1/04-05 AP2 turn the key to the first position and press and hold the trip button, while holding the trip button turn the key to the forward position and continue to hold until the Maintenance light goes off. Then you're done.

The milage interval for MY00- MY05 is 7500 miles. MY06-09 has a different system that takes into account how you drive (length of trips, etc.) and so the interval varies from driver to driver.
