Any ideas what this could be? It only does it a few times on start up!

You can check the manual and see what is required for a 45k or 50k tuneup.

The maintenance required light comes on at regular mileage intervals regardless of what has been done to the car. Just keep up with your maintenance and reset the light as necessary.

welcome to the internet.

that said, the maintenance light flashes once you're getting close to the suggested oil change interval. once you reach the suggested interval, the maintenance light comes on and stays on.

all the system does is keep up with mileage, it doesn't analyze the oil condition or anything like that.

Resetting the Maintenance Req’d indicator in the Honda s2000 is a very simple process:

1. Insert the key into the ignition, turn it all the way to position II (do not start the engine).
2. Turn the key back to the OFF position.
3. Press and hold the trip reset button on the dash.
4. (While still holding the trip reset button) Turn the key all the way to position II. In about 15 seconds, the Maint Req’d light will go out.
