I got the car down to 1 bar, then the fuel light came on. When I parked on a slope it went back up to 2 bars but the light stayed on.

When I got to the gas station, idk y, but I turned the car back on and it went up to 4 bars. I doubt I would trust that.

It drank 10.54 gallons. Fuely says I got 18mpgs on the last tank of gas. Shell 93. Probably 90% city driving and a lot of VTEC

Probably a new car I just don't know all the quarks and features of.

Threshold for light to go on is not same to make it go off. This is so you don't have light toggling on off when you're low, and go up down hills, etc.

When last bar disappears, you have about 2 gallons left. Likewise, when you fill up, about 2 gallons need to be used before first bar disappears from full. So that exactly middle of gauge is exactly half tank.

Since you're probably not staring at gauge, can't usually be sure when last bar disappeared, to know for sure how much left. Generally bad idea to run low, as fuel is also coolant for fuel pump. So running low takes life off pump as it overheats. Pain to change.

Yeah... with a 13.2 gallon tank... and the car drank 10.545 gallons... I should have 2.655 left to drive in circles around the gas station for 48.055 more miles until my fuel pump burns out.

All this is to say even the way I'm driving the full tank should have pushed me a total 238miles of mostly city, mostly a lot of VTEC driving.

Car seems fine.

18 mpg is wild. How long are your trips?

Work is 3 miles away. Other stuff around town is short. It's stupid. It's basically all launches from every stop. I'll try do some longer drives and see how it goes with the next tank.

I also need to put new wheels and tires on the car and set the PSI to 34. My old tires are 30psi and dry+crusty. I have the new rubber already too, I just need to clean my hubs a tiny bit and the mounting surface on the back of these wheels I found.

The poor fuel economy could also be that the car is almost always in a state of being warmed up, dumping fuel to make that happen. I use my '06 for the weekends and trips are nearly always 30+ miles. It's a turbo and I hit boost frequently and get 220-250 miles ona tank using 93 octane. Maybe try to go through a tank on a longer trips before determining if anything is wrong. If you're mid 20's then it's relatively normal.

3 miles in West LA or the Valley, at 8:30am weekdays, can be 1 hour --- in a car. Prolly faster walking --- as long as you don't mind ducking cars, for your life!

They live in Maine. A car on a three mile commute is not the best tool for the job.

Keep in mind when saying "ride a bike" that it is not always feasible. depending on direction, 3 miles from my house would be getting on a large highway for example. Not sure the situation here but I have also lived where 3 miles in a car turns into a lot further due to highways not legal to ride on. There is also cold, rain, etc that most people are not going to ride a bike in, or maybe a person has a lot of stuff they carry back and forth to work, etc. Lots of reasons biking may not be a good answer.
