Who the hell cares about "mile to the tank"? It means nothing because it's not comparable from one person to another. Nobody knows exactly how much fuel is left in the tank when a person says "Ok, now i need to fill up".

The only comparable thing is mpg. Calculated yourself. Fill it up. Drive. Fill it up. Miles driven/gallons to fill up.

True. But I assumed everyone was talking about when the low fuel light comes on. While thats not completely consistent (when that low, a hill will make it come, or stay off, alittle sooner/longer), its at least a reasonable comparison.

In my opinion, I think it's more valid and consistent when the indicator is on empty, That varies far less than the low fuel light.

And, Car Analogy (no offense intended, this is actually a compliment), I'm surprised you say this. I've read many of your posts, and you are usually someone who is more interested in facts, statistics and things that can be proven rather than something as variable as a fuel light.

I'd say that the fuel light indicator could vary by 20-50 miles between conditions, let alone between people and how they drive, making any comparisons relatively worthless.

It is not a calibrated fuel gauge and light.

My mpg varies from 23 spirited driving, to 30 on the freeway. Going slow (national parks, Tioga Pass) at 35mph I can get just under 40mpg. That happened twice. The first time I thought the gas gauge had failed. It didn't.

When I approach a third of a tank I start looking for gas stations.

I get about 430-440 kms, so 275 ish miles/tank. I track both my cars on Fuelly, and average aroun 9.2l/100km, or 25-26 mpg. I'm at about 3200 ft elevation. I also track my winter car which is a Subaru, I'd rather not talk about it's mileage....... lol

I average about 20 mpg with my current tune. Have had as much as 30 when stuck behind slow highway traffic and never got more than 8 - 9 mpg at the track.

As stated it is not a good metric, but if you just want to know how far you roughly can expect tank to tank (aka to plan trips), I typically got about 260 on a tank on the highway stock. With my tune (Karcepts AP1) tune, I have not paid as much attention, around the cities I do not measure and I have started trailering to Lincoln autox events so I dont go on as many straight up highway jaunts. Seems close to stock if I stay out of it, but I dont stay out of it :P

I burn half a tank at an autox practice day, but again ... not a good number for you

If you are planning a trip, just plan to have gas stations available at 240 miles and you will have a safe margin.

People saying they have gotten close to 40 mpg, glad you have a magic s2k with a big sail on it. Best I have ever seen was still under 30 mpg, using cruise control on the highway for hours !
