Motor oil question
Ok so I have read a little about this, but am looking for a hard answer for my exact situation.
Can I swap to a different weight motor oil and get some sort of benefit from it? I live in mississippi where it is hot almost all year around and rarely below 30 degrees F. Ever. I have stock engine internals and currently use royal purple 10w-30. I also participate in SCCA solo a few times a month. Can I use something else that would be better for my situation? I understand that the factory fill is 10w-30 and that is to protect from a wide variety of situations that I don't encounter. If anyone has an answer and not just speculation I would be very grateful! Thanks in advance!

IMO....on the top side,W30 is fine for the way you drive your car.I personally run Amsoil 0W30 in my GST,S2K & Z06.The CRV & EXV take the 0W20 for gas mileage benefit.
If I can help you....let me know.

Your oil temps would not be high enough to warrant a 40 weight if that is the weight that you are considering. For the Solo events I think you would benefit from the flow characteristics of a 30 weight oil at higher rpms. I would stick with a 30 weight. Consider moving to a high quality oil like Amsoil, their 0w30, 5w30 or 10w30 would be a great choice.
Would there be any benefit to running a 0W30 or 5W30? I am most likely going to switch to redline or amsoil for the price I spend on royal purple I might as well be using a better product.
Lot's of opinions on oil...here's mine.
Many people would agree that at cold startup, wear can be higher because most of the oil is in the pan.I personally want to have a thin oil at startup so it gets to where it needs to be quicker. At each cold start-up the wear is minor, but think about how many cold starts you have.....probably at least 2 a day =14 a week.
IMO....over a years time and certainly over several years, this can make a difference.
Oil is cheap....hard parts are not.

Keep in mind that oil is still relatively thick at start up in 70 degrees F ambient weather conditions. Most common oil viscosity specs are given at 100 degrees Celsius, below that temp the oils are thicker.
