No reason to come within 100 meters of any GM tranny fluid with the new Honda MTF available.
Fwiw, I tried the new Honda MTF and went back to GMSFM - Honda was never as smooth as the GM stuff in my car. GMSFM is smooth and feels great, I never got that with Honda.

the GM stuff, are the syncromesh additives=friction modifiers? anything to worry about with long term use? is the product somewhat of a bandaid solution?

there's two version:

1)GM syncromesh
2)GM syncromesh Friction modified

i use the GMSMFM, been using that for years(on and off with different testing, including redline, honda oem, etc)

they cost more than twice as much as oem fluid, most GM dealer doesn't stock them so call before you go

well I just changed to honda mtf-2, however next will I wouldnt be opposed to trying another fluid that is gettnig good feedback. A few that come to mind are Redline and Amsoil.

I just replaced my diff (quite possibly factory fill. didnt look too dirty, could still see through it to a degree, a little silverish sediment on the drain plug, but I got the feeling that the drain/fill bolt had never been cracked from factory [48k km]) with the Motul 300 75/90 and so far it seems excellent. It got rid of what could be described before as a little bunny hop or drivetrain shock so Im happy.

Wow, I'm really interested now. I loved how the RL felt (over OEM/old). I also know someone who works at a GM dealership so maybe discount ftw? Next, next oil change I will try it. Thanks for the info man!

I had Redline MTL in the S2000 before and I didn't like how the tranny had to warm up A LOT longer before it's within operating temps for aggressive driving. I think it's geared towards high heat protection of track days rather than streetable, stop & go that the OEM MTF-2 offers.

If you're seeing 2-3 track days and a few autocrosses per year, but still daily drive the car...forget the Redline....get the OEM MTF-2

I change my tranny fuild at every oil change (which is overkill) but I get OEM MTF-2 fluid for free so why not?

I use Redline 75w90 Gear Lube for the Diff though

From what I've read the bolt has to be cracked each time so that's not really indicative of anything. There are also recommendations to replace diff fluid a bit more frequently than the maintenance schedule (especially if you track/autocross) since our diffs are so small and have to work fairly hard.
