when i changed it all i used:

Honda MTF (no reason to use anything else, trust me... and everyone else on here)
Mobil 1 75w90 (didn't want to bother looking for anythign else and i knew this would work)

Take fill bolts off first as others have said. NEVER drain that fluid until the fill bolt is broken loose.

The rear diff fill bolt is a pain to get off, and people saying use a socket.. man i don't know what you're talking about. I had to use a box wrench to do it. I used 15/16 which is slightly too big and added some slight corners to it. After i went and bought a 23mm box wrench just for this

but a socket? none of my sockets would work, that's for sure.

I used a cheap fluid pump from advanced auto, they had some better ones, but for 5 bucks, whatever.

Once again, another thread about fluids and there are about 3-4 that are the "best". I guess trial and error on my part will have to do the trick!

No, just a bunch of random thoughts, experiences, speculation and disinformation. And a few great pointers.

1. RTFM
2. Read the FAQ
3. Ask specific questions that haven't been addressed twice in the same week.

Tranny: Fill bolt first, drain second (and for the diff). Use new washers. MTF II or GMSMFM. (Or amsoil if you are a salesman.) Overfill as much as you can, which won't be much.

LE-1605 is what I run.

bottom line, 90% of S2K guys don't need to run anything "better" or more expensive than Honda MTF-2 or LE-1605 in the diff. If you're not seeing track time, you're just wasting money.

From what I've read the bolt has to be cracked each time so that's not really indicative of anything. There are also recommendations to replace diff fluid a bit more frequently than the maintenance schedule (especially if you track/autocross) since our diffs are so small and have to work fairly hard.
I just had a good feeling that it had never been opened up since factory. that and the fact that it had the original yellow paint lines on it matching up and there were no sign that a socket had marred it.

I got a socket to fit on there...you just have to be creative and try hard!
