Default MTF Fluid

I've noticed some notchy shifting in my trans. Slight grind going 1st to 2nd when not fully warm, but I guess that's not at all uncommon for S2s. I have a 2005 AP2 with 22k on it. In searching, I found posts back from 2001 where people used, with great results, Castrol Syntrans 75W-85 manual transmission fluid in place of what came in their S2000 from the factory. Any current suggestions or input on what to use would be greatly appreciated. I've only had my S2000 for a month so bear with me here...Thanks!

I tried the GM synchromesh friction modified MTF, as many had recommended, then went back to Honda MTF. The 1=>2 grind is always there when cold, but it was not improved with the other fluid, and it always goes away completely when the tranny warms up.

I've flogged my car pretty well, with lots of track days and hundreds of autocross runs; I've changed the various fluids quite regularly, and the transmission shows no obvious signs of fatigue; I'm sticking with the Honda MTF.

There are many threads on this topic; it's one of the few things that search seems to work for.

Thanks for the input. I found the search information to be from a handfull of years back, so I was looking for more up to date info. Thanks again.

First check your clutch fluid. Then just get a fresh fill of Honda MT fluid.

Honda MTF has been updated in the last year or so and seems to perform as well as any other product out there.

are u sure this is not gear oil for differential? Do not use hypoid gear oil in s2000 tranny.

No, actually, I'm not sure. I just figured that to smooth out the shifting, I'd switch out the tranny fluid. My car does make a slight clunk maybe 1 of every 3 times that I put it in first from a complete stop...no grind, just a clunk, and in my complete uninformed opinion, it sounds farther back, like in or near the diff. Are we saying that there are three different fluids to manage-clutch fluid, tranny fluid, diff fluid?

Is the Amsoil synthetic 75w-90 a manual tranny fluid? We were talking about a bunch of different things and I want to make sure I'm not confused. Thanks!
