I think he is talking about Gear Oil. I use the same stuff. 75W-90 interesting feel vs. factory oil. Just my take on it.

Am I understanding you are running 75-90 Amsoil gear oil in your tranny!!!! That is definately not the right fluid for our Trans.

No, actually, I'm not sure. I just figured that to smooth out the shifting, I'd switch out the tranny fluid. My car does make a slight clunk maybe 1 of every 3 times that I put it in first from a complete stop...no grind, just a clunk, and in my complete uninformed opinion, it sounds farther back, like in or near the diff. Are we saying that there are three different fluids to manage-clutch fluid, tranny fluid, diff fluid?
Yes.

I was going back and forth between Honda MTF (new) and Amsoil MTF. I then started mixing the two until I started getting the 1-2 grind again. I'm currently running straight Amsoil MTF and it seems to be running smoother than before.
If your car has no problems with Honda MTF - it's fine to stick with it. However, Amsoil MTF seems to last about twice as long before it gets notchy. My car has an '04 AP2 transmission.

I've noticed some notchy shifting in my trans. Slight grind going 1st to 2nd when not fully warm, but I guess that's not at all uncommon for S2s. I have a 2005 AP2 with 22k on it. In searching, I found posts back from 2001 where people used, with great results, Castrol Syntrans 75W-85 manual transmission fluid in place of what came in their S2000 from the factory. Any current suggestions or input on what to use would be greatly appreciated. I've only had my S2000 for a month so bear with me here...Thanks!
Honda MTF seems to be smoother than anything in colder weather - but breaks down fairly fast in hotter weather (I change MTF @ the same time as every motor oil change). Amsoil MTF during the summer and Honda MTF in the winter seems to work the best. I double clutch with rev matching for the first several 1-2-3 shifts in the morning. Once everything is warmed up - no notchyness.

My transmission was notchy too, and had a 1-2 grind at redline. Changed to honda mtf, tranny feels exactly the same but now theres no 1-2 grind at redline. I have NEVER had a 1-2 grind when the trannys cold, dont know why its so common with everyone else.

AMSOIL makes a manual tranny fluid 75W-90 GL4 labeled MTG (not MTF synchromesh). I tried a 60/40% mix of the two (MTF/MTG) on my last tranny fluid change and ran it for 1000 miles. It never felt very good at all, so I can't recommend this mix to anyone. Honda MTF in it again now and shifts great! I'll probably just stay with Honda MTF from now on, and change it when it starts to get notchy again. No problem.
