Please help me out. I thought that most engines ran better hot rather than colder - more complete combustion at the higher temps. I think I understand heat soak, but doesn't that only affect things for a minute or two after sitting hot. Would this mod really make for a better running engine overall. I understand that the temp bars have lots of room for varied actual temperature, but how hot would it have to get to have the ECU start to retard timing. Could it start withing that 3rd bar?
The thermostat is only limiting the lower limits of the coolant temps. It shouldn't affect the upper limits. I guess having the fan come on earlier could keep the coolant temperature down, especially if not at speed, but I don't see how at the track - seems like the radiator would be the limiting factor. Everyone seems to be in agreement that this mod works, so I must be missing something.
Thanks,
john
