Default Is my top folding correctly?

This Spring I replaced the convertible top on my MY 04. The insurance company paid for it, so I got an OEM top and did the work myself. Before I replaced it, when I lowered it, the folded top would always be above the rear deck, sometimes by 2-4 inches.

Now, when I lower the top, it always folds below the rear deck. It certainly looks a lot cleaner this way, but I wonder if I did something wrong that will come back to haunt me later. For example, my old top had no wear points after 50,000 miles - will the new one that folds down so far have wear problems?

For right now, it is working OK.

Should I fix something?

that is perfectly normal. if you look at the inside of the top, you'll see two elastic straps between two of the bars. those straps pull the bar back into place as the top folds, so that it folds correctly. as they wear out, the top will end up high and higher. i assume that when you replaced the top, those straps got changed as well.

Convertible top fix, Modifry.com

check out that link. should tell you everything you need to know.

thanks

yup..assuming you got new elastic bands with your new top...they will pull the bars closer thus making the soft-top close more tightly.

old elastic bands dont have enough tension to pull the bars closer

Actually, no, I did not replace the elastic straps. The replacement Honda top did not include replacements.

Neither did mne, I guess we're going to have to buy some then. Where do they actually attach?

thats why some times it take dealer longer time to replaced them, because they have to drill out revits and revited. They dont have revits in stock and must be order else where.

Rivets are standard 4mm, nothing special there, my local home depot only had 3 and 5, so I went with the 5 and drilled the hole a lil bigger, worked a lot better than the 4mm, but thass me.
Oh, I forgot which DIY thread said it, but be sure to blow out the rivet remnants, they really do get annoying to hear. So now I need to peel my top back to get those those poles to blow them out. Have fun!
