I run Mobil 1 syn amd i change my oil every 3000miles withoug fail. Why would you consider this a waste of money. Is there a better performing oil that i should be using? I also run the Hamp filter if that makes a difference.
You missed the point - changing at that mileage is a waste of money because M1 has a lot of life in it at that mileage - and synoil's main selling point these days is its longevity - as xviper said, read the oil journals - the performance of modern mineral oils has narrowed the performance gap between min and syn that the biggest reason to go to syn is longer-drain intervals.

GM has gone to non-specific oil change intervals - so has Acura on my TL. The days of the 2-3K oil change are going the way of the Mesozoic age. The only exception for me would be my sityuation - where I drive 2-3k miles per year, and any oil should not sit in a car that long.
