If you are asking why the two look different. Looks like the tip on one of them was broken off.

That's the secondary in the Cat right? Left and right don't make sense so I'm guessing the short one is old. Look in the hole on the cat. I bet the core has broken free and sheered the tip off the sensor. It's common.

It is common. Just happened to me. If you look in the hole you'll see sort of a "second wall" of metal that paralles the wall of the cat. If it's sort of loose, then it's broken. You'll just keep breaking off the tips. You need a new cat.

I'd suggest www.oxygensensors.com

Best prices I could find. A direct replacement is about $40. Plugs right in. If you haven't used the Honda one yet, I'd return it and save yourself a hundred bucks.

To replace the cat I'd recommend Berk. That's what most people use. Very high quality and only about $250 versus the dealer $800.

Anything can happen. However, you may still not be able to get it smogged if the system hasn't reset itself yet. It's not just about the CEL getting reset. The smog guy will tell you.

I just had my cat and O2 sensor replaced also because of a broken core. I know you are out of the 80,000 mi. warranty, but I would still talk with honda and try to get them to cover it. They may not do it, but you can always ask. They have to know their is a problem with the S2000 cats.
