Default Need Your Help

Hey guys,

I’m new here and I really need your help. Is it normal to hear a clunking or thumping noise when shifting from neutral to first gear and from neutral to reverse? The noise occurs when the clutch is released and seems louder when shifting from neutral to reverse than to first gear. Any insight is greatly appreciated. BTW, it is a 2003 with 127k miles

Its normal. The transmissions shafts are spinning at different speeds until you put them into gear and synchronize them.

Here's a test...

Push the clutch in. Wait 5 seconds.
then put it in gear.

No noise, right?
