***UPDATE***
Swapped in new Vtec solenoid gaskets and leak is gone. The ticking will still come & go after the car has been warmed up, but Billman TCT arrived yesterday & should fix that problem when installed on Tuesday.
New oil, diff, trans, brake, & clutch fluid will be swapped in this week as well & should be ready for Autocross on Saturday. Can’t wait!!

Interesting..my engine (almost 168k Miles) is now using oil like anything. It burns it (exhausts are always black) but more importantly, my Vtec solenoid and surrounding area looks much like yours! I'm wondering if this is the cause of my extremely high consumption (1lt every 300 miles). I did buy a new gasket for the vtec solenoid in the summer, but didn't get around to fitting it. I already have Billmans TCT so wondering if that solenid leak alone would be enough to cause such high consumption? Certainly not seeing anything on the floor...

Hey@champion_hero check out a post I made about consumption.

Milage - quarts
213616 - purchased full 6/8/18 Compression 208 208 210 210, <6% leakdown. Motor checks out as healthy. Engine bay clean, me unaware of how large the oil consumption is. Seller noted top it up at fueling. Car seemed extremely well maintained. To the original owner, the consumption probably gradually increased, and just became habit to top off - but not document how much consumption. Received a stack of service records as thick as the service manual.

213967 - 2/5
214262- 3/5
214534 - 2/5
214789 - 4/5
215102 - 3/5
215451 - 2/5
215697 - 2/5
215888 - 3/5
216124 - 1/5th low - Oil change - Replaced TCT O Rings, VTEC Solenoid Gaskets
216439 - 1/5
216748 - 2/5
216998 - 2/5
217285 - 1/5
217527 - 1/5
217801 - 1/5
218054 - 1/5
218471 - Oil change - Replaced Valve cover Gasket, spark Tube, Valve Bolt Gaskets, VTEC Oil Pressure O-Ring, TDC O-Rings, PCV Grommet
218738 - 0/5
218989 - 1/5
219264 - 0/5
219503 - 1/5
219788 - 1/5
220000 - 0/5
220289 - 0/5
220563 - 1/5
220884 - 0/5
221102 - Oil Change - Replaced Oil Cap Gasket, Dip Stick, TCT Peep Washer, Cam Idle Gear O-Ring, Valve cover to 04-05, TSX PCV, Valve Stem Seals

At this point I was down to about a quart every 2500. I stopped recording my 0 inputs and only noting actual inputs

223251 - 1/5th

Current Milage 223893 1/9/19.
Replacing the TCT O-Rings, and VTEC gaskets, as well as the vtec oil pressure o ring, cleared a significant amount of my "lost" consumption. The biggest leak was the vtec oil pressure o ring

thanks for this! Seems like it's something I should have done a while ago. Along with the Vtec gasket I also purchased the rocker cover gasket, spark plug sills etc - just haven't got around to replacing them as was planning on getting the cover resprayed before doing it - although hindsight suggests I crack on with it.
I'm going to have to brace the cold and do it one weekend soon I guess!

Its not compatible with most rubber or plastic. And the chlorinated kind can stain aluminum.

It also removes paint.

And is flammable AF.

It's really just the ultimate destroyer. Which is why it works great on cleaning isolated, relatively indestructible metal parts (namely brake rotors).
I wish all mechanics knew this, because a MAJORITY of mechanics spray brake cleaner on everything, including rubber and plastic.

Do you know the severity of the damage on say a valve cover gasket, assuming the gasket was brand new, what kind of damage are we talking about?

I understand if the gasket was on it's last legs, the brake clean might blow a leak open, but what about brand new gaskets? I know the leak won't be immediate, but does it take like 5 years off the useful life or something like that?

Do you know if it destroys sealant, like if a metal cover was mated to metal with only sealant in between, does brake clean also cause a leak in that area?
