Thank you for the post billman. My mechanic specializes in the honda s2000 he has actually built 2 an ap1 and an ap2 to 600+ hp and races them all over the country and he was the one that actually told me originally about cracking retainers so I would like to think he has a trained eye. Thats the reason im going to travel 3 hours to go see him. Honda says the 60k service includes gear oil, trans oil, break inspection pretty basic stuff then I wanna do a VA because I think I am hearing a fluttering noise or something compareable to a card in the spokes of a bicycle tire but its very faint it seems like. But thank you very much I will make sure spark plugs are torqued to 22 ft-lb when I take it in for service: ) is there anything else I should be cautious of with this car or have looked at

you have a good starting point already. after you address these issues just keep an eye out on things that could be replaced as you go.

this!!!

One thing you or your mechanic should do is change all the fluids--oil (and filter), transmission, differential, and brake and clutch. Then you have a "baseline" of when they were last done and can start changing them regularly from this point on. (opinions differ on here on what "regularly" is but having them all done when you buy the car is a good starting point)

Just a word of caution or note: When the dealer services the gear oil for example, they use a non synthetic general gear lube. (In some cases they don't know it is a real diff and will put transfer case or VTM-4 in it) The transmission will be Honda MTF which is fine, but even the oil my be low grade dino. If you are picky about oil and lube you may want your own oils in the car so do it yourself. Not that hard. I did let the dealer do a brake bleed as they had a great special, but that was it.

Might as well get some torque wrenches. I have 2 to cover the ranges and socket sizes.

The fluttering noise may be, just may be, a TCT starting to go. Check some of the videos and threads to see if your sound is like that. Billman has a good TCT rebuild unit that, unlike a new one from Honda, should not fail eventually again.

Good luck.

Well he is coming from a Trans Am, so give him a break :-)

The shudder you mention upon routine take off sounds like it could be engine or trans mounts. Have your guy check those when he does the planned service.
