I decided to go with the Iridium's IK24 (1 range colder than stock),
but I'm sure the NGK COPPER RACING's are fine, this is just a personal selection bases on friends with S/C. The Vortech manual just says not to put platinum plugs in applications where they didn't come originally. I am told with Iridium you kinda get the best of both worlds-long life and copper like spark. You guys can read all about in this forum under "which are the best sparkplugs with the Vortech" I sure whatever you choose will be fine. The coppers will do the job and they are $1.80 each, that's probably why Speedcraft includes them in their turbo kit. It may also require a different set up to the S/C. Has anyone out here had a bad experience with Iridum's I should know about? Phil

The NGKs that Speedcraft uses are much colder - I believe 3 steps colder - they are a heat range of 10.

Wow! Those are super cold. I imagine the turbo's heat created is the reason. Vortech says to start 2 ranges colder, then move up if you start to foul them. I may have to make an adjustment on plugs after first reading-I probably should have started with some of the copper's until I get it dialed in. Pt

Both BlackS2000Turbo and I are running the them and haven't had any fouling problems yet. KAMcDonald also has a set and they seem to be working for him too. At similar boost levels, we have found that the AITs for the turbo car are 30+ degrees cooler than our non-intercooled SC'd cars. Based on that, I felt that the cold plugs were a good idea.....if a I had a Vortech cooling the charge, perhaps I could run a bit hotter plug

Glad you got your number, I have been busy and haven't called but now I am excited and I will.

On the plugs-go to page 2 of this forum and gernby and others discuss the plugs. The guy at LTB motorsports can get them right out if you want some. Phil

Other Vortech owners posting have indicated that going 2 heat ranges colder has caused some fouling in some set-ups. I guess the only way to find the proper range for my set-up and cond-
itions will be to run it for a couple hundred miles and pull the plugs and go from there. One would speculate, I am far from an expert, the turbo spun at higher RPM's by hot exhaust gas would have the higher air intake temps with an air to air intercooler??? Phil

The intercooler drops the AIT a whole lot. I am not sure what the AIT of a turbo car would be without an intercooler, but compared to a SC'd car with no intercooler, there was a 30+ degree delta (in favor of the turbo car).

I wonder how much the aftercooler helps the S/C compared to an S/C without? I'm sure the intercooler on the turbo is a nearly must, and sounds like it really works!

The principal difference can be see with the two existing S/C kits on the market today - the Comptech with NO intercooler and the Vortech WITH intercooler. The differences in output was not as dramatic as one would have theorized.
Ultimate Lurker started a thread a while ago to point out his ideas on why this is. If you are interested, try to search it out and have a read.
