Question no vtec engagement

Hello s2ki, looking for some advice from where to start to find the issue.

About a week ago I installed J's header, TP and T1R EM Dual. I read a lot of text about AP2 running lean so I got EManage Chrome from ballistics. Car has been sitting an a garage since then I just started it once to warm up and see that there is no CEL.

Today I decided to take a ride - all switches on EMU are off. Car feels smooth and I actually was very happy in difference compared to just TP and exhaust without EMU I had before.
I took the car to the highway and was trying to push it hard. Engine revved ok but I didin't feel any vtec engagement. I tried few time starting from 5K rpm with the same result. No CEL or anything and car actually feels more than Ok, but no vtec.

One thing to mention. During header installation I tried removed one thing from the engine to get more room. Honda parts says it's (switch assy., valve timing oilpressure) - VTEC solenoid? - not sure. I just turned a bit counterclockwise and oil started coming from it, and decided to leave it the so tighten it back.

I checked it after a drive and everything seems ok, it's tighten and connected to the harness.

So, please advice where to look at...

-Paul

So who tuned the Greddy eMU? How did they set up the vtec engagement?

If the tuner did everyhing right then you may have damaged the vtec solenoid when you tried to remove it. Or you didn't plug the wires into the socket all the way.

You may want to check for Vtec engagement from below 5k. Make a 2nd or 3nd gear run from starting from 2k. Even with the switches set to stock on your Chrome, I think Vtec switch over is still below 5k. Since it is lower, it is not as pronounced.

In my AP1, with Black EMU, I knew power was on but I really missed the kick in the pants with the stock Vtec engagment point.

To be sure, I'd remove the EMU completely.

Especially since you were testing it at 5k, I bet VTEC was already engaged. I've heard of many tuners engaging VTEC at or around 4k, which lessens the stock "kick"

With EMU removed I'll be running very lean with my mods, but if I don't find anything that can explain the issue, I'll try that.

I couldn't really damage VTEC solnoid since I didn't even unscrew it completely. I saw few oil drop and tighten it back. I'll check the wires again...

Also, PMed to Giles from holyrollerdyno with questions. Probably he can clear everything up.

And BTW, I'm pretty sure that with EMU Chrome VTEC engagement didn't change. Black one probably does that thing since it's running full time in close loop and adjusting fuel in real-time. Chrome one isn't doing it.
