noisy excedy clutch
since 2 months I have installed the Excedy clutch (from GB).
over all, the known rattle of the old OEM-clutch is gone
but there is a new "noise" during starting with the 1gear;
it sounds like "pulling a wire over a kerb"
my colleague has the same sound too - it's really quite ugly
It's only there if you start with the 1st or the reversegear...
when you start with even less gas => this sound is softer
Is this just normal - as ugly as it is?? or what the hell might this be?!?
isn't this an indication of abrasion?!?
regards
Yves

That is normal. The sound you hear is the clutch disk meeting the flywheel. It is a racing clutch and it's whole purpose in life is to work well under racing conditions.

I have the same clutch, drove on it for a year, 40,000 kms, which is alot, raced, drag, track, and daily driving for sometime until i got the second car.
The sound is normal while launching smooth, if you lanch it hard you wont hear it.
I am now replacing the clutch with Exedy Hyper Single again, so far best clutch i found. Had the spoon 3 puck on the car with Spoon flywheel and pressure plate, Horrible! the other spoon full face is better then stock in performance (they say) and feels as stock (very true). But do you know it is made by Exedy also for Spoon?!
Exedy is a company called Daikin Clutch, worlds leading OEM and after market clutch company, they make clutches for most of the companies. Spoon and Exedy makes clutches for lots of modified cars. For S2k specially if you look at it both companies supply different type of clutch (racing) why? so they dont overlap each other.
Exedy also makes for Honda as well. spoon full face disc is saaame as the stock Honda disc, check it yourself.
Lightweight fly wheel is the only thing from spoon that helps, which is also honda ligthened flywheel.
Manufacturing clutches is not easy, only specialised companies can affoard that and that is Daikin Clutch - Exedy.
Hyper single is the best buy and best clutch for S2K.
Enjoy!
