Default o2 sensor

Hi guys,

I have a test-pipe on my car right now, I've had it for about 3 years ever since my cat was removed. I want to go to a muffler shop and place an aftermarket cat back on the car and remove the testpipe, in the process of doing this, i was just curious is my o2 sensor still ok to plug into the aftermarket cat? Will it remove my check engine light? My main concern is to remove my check engine light. I'm curious to know if I will need a brand new o2 sensor along with the cat? Any feedback is helpful, thanks!

You can put your o2 sensor back in and clear the CEL by removing the ECU main fuse for a few seconds. If you are using an aftemarket HFC you still may get a CEL.

If I were to get a regular cat from a muffler shop and plug it in, instead of the test pipe and place my o2 sensor inside I will still get an check engine light? How do i get rid of the light then? Any other thoughts? My main concern is to plug in a regular cat and have the check engine light disappear.

You would have to find the fuse for the ECU, ECM and remove it for 30 seconds or so to clear the CEL. If you can find an OEM cat even if it is used and in good condition. I dont know if I would use something generic not sure what the results would be you still may get a CEL hard to say.

Your best bet will be using the old one once you install the new cat, and seeing if it works or not. Then, if you need to, you can buy a new sensor or that gapper.
