I don't use the (small)Honda oil filter for the S, I use a oversize filter on my '06.
Here are some pic's of a Napa(Wix), Honda S2000 filter and my Baldwin B7042

interesting... so whats the benefits having a bigger oil filter and how many miles do you change it? price?
I run 8k miles on the oil and 16k on this Baldwin filter. One benefit is the oil filter does not go into bypass as much, so more oil goes through the filter instead of through the bypass. I have one more B7042 filter left then I'm going to start using the B202 filter(same size as the B7042 but it has a 20lbs bypass instead of the 14lbs thats in the B7042). It also filters the oil better and with the larger size still out flows the stock oil filter.
You can get the B202 for $9.86 with free shipping.

The small PLM filer has never been the recommend filter for the S2000, some dealers don't know any better or are to lazy to install the correct one. 11 years ago all Hondas used the same size filter as the PCX part. When the 01 Civic launched they consolidated the parts chain and moved all past models to the small filter, and left the S2000 with the original larger size. The NSX filter is larger still, but not the same threads as the S2000.

I use synthetic oil in my wife's '06. I use M1 and it doesn't use any oil in 8k miles(I do use a mix of M1 oil).
My wife has over 250k miles on her '00 Bonneville SSEI and that car has had nothing but synthetic oil(bought the car new) and that engine still runs great but it does use about 3/4 qt. of oil in 10k miles.

only OEM PCX-004 for me and my S. cost should be NO OBJECT in maintaining a car like the S. Treat your S as it should. non synthetic in your S? your kidding right? This isn't a civic...once again, its an s2000. If you can't spend the money to maintain it, sell it to someone who can.

good luck.

Hope you're kidding. Synthetic isn't a must in the S. There are many good conventionals out there.

I don't and will never see any good reason to not put synthetic oil in a car like the S. If your budget is so tight that you need to save 30$ per oil change, what is it going to be when you'll need a more expensive maintenance such as bearings and brakes ?

In all honesty...there's nothing wrong with using a non-synthetic as long as your oil change intervals reflect that. I love all these oil and oil filter debates, they make me laugh a lot....non-synthetic will lubricate the engine just as well, but it will begin to break down quicker than a synthetic would, that's all.

I'm currently running a non-synthetic oil in my engine due to a rebuild, after 3K I will be going back to synthetic because of the extended life and increased wear properties. But to be honest, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using a good non-synthetic as long as the maintenance interval reflects it.

You shouldn't make assumptions.
