oem spark plug question
So today I went to my local honda stealership to grab some plugs for the s. The guy gave me part number 98079-571BH and total was $100++. (Forgot exact amount because I was so shocked). Ive looked through our threads and see the ngk part number "7772". The 7772 are
around $10 each and seems to be the oem plug everyone uses.
So what gives? I remember billman talking about oem is the best, especially the ones from honda because they are pre gapped to the s. Also remember him saying that the oem hondas run so much better, but $100+ for the set is kinda outrageous imo. Which should I get? Or are they the same?
Please keep this on topic. Dont need another "which plugs are best" thread. Read them all.

I stay away from the Stealership unless I have to get an OE Honda part.Lot's of good plugs out there.
The OE plugs may be "BEST" for the car,but going to a parts store may be "BEST" for your wallet.
FWIW....I run NGK copper BKR7E in my 03 w/101k miles.These copper V-groove plugs are about $2.50 ea.

Agree with redlineracing----the dealership is the last place to go for these.
7772 is the NGK number for the OEM plug--Honda has their own, longer stock number they list it under in their system but it's the same plug --it even says 7772 is the Honda OEM plug for our S2000s on the NGK website----(note the # after the part number)

Any auto parts store like Autozone, Pep Boys, Advance, etc should have them for a whole lot less--probably $13-14 each.
Or you can order them online--for example, Amazon has the NGK 7772s for $9.23 each with free shipping. That's where I get mine.

JOC, did your plugs come in a red box with "Honda" stamp and part number? I remember, back in the day, I had a CR250R and CR500R dirt bikes. They did run better with original Honda part (red box) NGK platinum plugs. I can't remember why, at the moment --- except they did foul less.
Anyhow, I got the 7772, for the S2000, from Amazon. Very good. Super smooth acceleration and hot end power.

^^^ I was wondering about the red box also. Like if I order from honda, it should come in a red box. Im rereading billmans past responses on spark plugs and he says the oem honda and the auto store are different but have the same part number. (Sorry if I misread anything) He says its the gap that makes the difference in the 2 plugs and the oe gap makes a big difference. I might just order online from a honda parts store. Hope they send me the "right" plugs.
Auto store are pregap at .044
Honda are pregap at .039 (according to billmans past threads)

If you did want to change the gap (or just check it), here's NGKs instructions on how to gap, their Platinum and Iridium plugs--

I ordered the exact plugs from a supplier on eBay (I want to say it was around $35-$40) and found the gap was right on. I agree the NGK webisite has good information (they make the things afterall) and adjusting the gap is no big deal as long as you do it the recommended way.
Like a few others have said, go to Amazon for plugs.
I ran the 7772s for a while. Good plug no doubt.
I switched to the pre-gapped "colder" BKR8EIX #2668's now.
Not really a need or reason to, I just wanted to.
They supposedly last longer and run cooler so that's why I decided to give them a try.
A set of (4) from Amazon was $25 shipped (Prime), at the time.
