Which oil burns less
Hey everyone, I am not really sure if this has been posted before. I cant find a direct answer. I have run Mobil 1 synthetic in the past and burned a ton of oil. I recently switched to Pennsoil Platinum synthetic and its gotten better but not enough. I burned about 1 quart per 1000 miles which I been reading is about the normal. But is there a specific oil that is better then the rest in reguards to oil consumption for our motors?
Also I am interested in what intervals people change their oil at. I run synthetic which I believe is good till way over 3000k. More then likely 5-7k. But since my oil will not last that long should I replace it every 3 instead? I am curious what you guys do. Filling up the oil in between changes, to only drain it again in a few thousand more seems like a waste to me. Thanks guys

1 quart for every 1000 miles is more of the limit so to speak. Not exactly normal. I use royal purple. Some say it's too expensive, but Hondas recommended oil change interval is 12k or 12 months so an extra 25 bucks every 9 months or so isn't really bad (personally I still change my oil every 3k miles, and I'm not boosted). I don't burn any oil with it.

I have royal purple too and got about 7k between changes. Companies that make synthetic oil advertise that you can go 12k or 15k between changes. The most recent mobile 1 commercial says that. Oil changes every 3k is kind of outdated. People sit ll do it for added protection but I think anywhere from 5-10 is fine depending on your driving style

Castrol GTX non synthetic
Change mine every 3500 miles, never low on oil... Tried all types of full synthetics and they all burned off a bit between oil changes Castrol did not.

I am using only 10-30w. I am not too concerned with the price of oil, I will pay for a quality oil that may help me. I am thinking of Amsoil, reading around the forum people say that it has helped them lots. (However its not easily available) I am wondering if I should switch over to regular non synthetic? I purchased the car at 30k miles it has 36k on it now. I am unsure of what the previous owner put in it.
My goal is to change my oil every 5k miles, but it seems like I have to add so much oil that it doesnt even pay to add, but just change out at 3k miles.
My motor seems strong and powerful, I havent done a compression test on it since I purchased it, however nothing gave me a reason to do so.
I vtec often, and redline rarely.

I had ok experience with royal purple, but the Amsoil I run now is better in every regard (including volatility).
On a side note modern dino oil is good for 7500, modern synthetic is good for 10-12, top of the line Amsoil is good for up to 25000 (all of the synthetics are mileage or 1 year) 3000 dino and 7500 syn is an outdated practice that mechanics perpetuate in order to milk more money out of unwitting customers.
