Thumbs up Oil change question

Hi,

I had an oil change today. They put Mobil 1 0W40, saying it is the proper oil for EU cars (mine was brough in from the UK). It looks bloody thin to me - same colour as my piss when I had a good few beers.

Could this oil be too thin for me here in the Caribbean? - average temp 32C, lowest about 22C.

Thanks.

Bill

Next time (if it is allowed) go and look over the mechanic's shoulder as the hot oil pours out of your engine.
Its THIN!
WAY.. WAY thinner then 0W-40 at room temp.

A 0W-40 is thicker then a 10W-30 at operating temp. (+/- 100 Celsius)
All though operating temp is roughly the same wherever you drive. (Not while on a track.. different story)

I'm using it.
Shell 0W-40.
Mobil 1 = just as good.

Did they use the proper S2000 PCX oil filter?
(also important)

Drove top down from dealer I reckon?

Oh, ok, I thought it was thinner. Should be ok then.

Now you have me worried about the filter. It's a Fram as far as I can see. And since one cannot buy S200s from a dealer here, I have to assume it is not an S specific one they put on.

How severe is not using exactly the right filter. Should I get a few off the net and change this ASAP?

Couldn't drive top down today - rain

Thanks for the info.

Read this
All about oil fliters
It may / will help you make an informed decision about what filter to use.
Personally I would go for the Honda PCX filter.

Fram is NOT the filter you want to use on this car. They are cheap wal-mart filters. S2000 needs a high pressure oil filter. I would drive the car very cautiously back to the oil change place and tell them to do it right.

Honda PCX filters are like 6 bucks from handa (yes, handa )

Just to give you an idea here, during my last oil change I accidentally tightened my filter a bit much with an oil filter wrench, and it left a small indentation in the filter. A week later, I drive up to meet the s2katlanta club and an entire 5 quarts of oil had spewed out into the engine bay, and the radiator fan blew it everywhere - in my wheel well, in the caliper/brake pads, down the entire length of the bottom of the car. That small, tiny little indentation the size of a pinky fingernail caused enough pressure for the filter to burst.

You need to get the right filter and oil. Go yell at them

yes use the PCX filter.

also, 0w40 is NOT a recommended weight for this car. in fact, our local tribologist RR recommended against using ANY oil weight on this car that has that large a difference in weight from the cold to operating weights.

please see the oil journal for more info.

i'd take it back, and make them use a better filter, and tell them they need to use the right weight. 5w40, 10w30 for example.

5W-30 is not a recommended oil for the S2000.
