I had big oil issues on my AP1 and discovered it was a combination of a leaky VTEC Solenoid and the valve cover gasket leaking some serious oil in places I couldn't easily see. I'd start there

How much oil were you adding, due to those leaks? Engine must have been quite a gummy mess. Kinda like an old Diesel?

It wasn't terrible but it was more then 1qt every 5k miles or whatever would be considered normal. Gummy mess, absolutely.

In the years that I have owned my car, I never had to add in extra oil. The dipstick reads pretty much the same at every oil change. The engine sees VTEC maybe once a month.

I also have a 04 ap2 , bought from a ford dealership, not sure what oil they had in her, i had to top it off about every 2 weeks w/ about 1/8 of a quart, iv changed the dealer oil out w/ royal purple 10/30w...no issues...i live in seattle drove it over Stevens Pass really hard & used about 1/8 th qt. ...i vtec it daily & no problems dosent use a drop...seems like a good synthetic is the way to go :-)

I Think My ap2 takes too much oil, What's normal oil consumption on those engines in ap2 (I know ap1 had problems with it on V-tech)

Thanks for replays

Swith to Mobil 1 10w30. I've had issues with 0w/30 burning more than normal and noisier engine. There a no real benefits to running 0w30.

Since switching to Amsoil Signature Series 10w30 I haven't had to add any between changes.

Depends on the temperature where you live. 0W-30 will warm up to proper operating viscosity faster than 10W-30.

Zero oil loss wth my 05 as well. Any loss for me would be a concern at this point.

I use Amsoil signature series in my 2006. Was using 10W-30 for awhile then I switched to 0W-30 earlier this year. In either case, I didn't consume any noticeable amount of oil between changes (~4500 miles or so per oil change). I drive pretty hard on the weekends. I have just over 100,000 miles so far.

Hi, Just an update.... I have replaced valve stem seals at around 175,000km and noticed a significant drop in oil burning, after driving around with them for the past 5,000km!
Still use 5w-40 Motul...
