I want to change my oil tomorrow and at the dealership i work at, they only have the oil filter that works on all cars(they have 2, the bigger one fits all and the smaller one is for the insight). i asked them to check to see if they have the s2k-specific oil filter(PCX, made in japan by toyo-ruki) but they didnt and it'll probably take a week for it to get here. the parts guy said they used the regular filter on the s2000's for the past 2 months and there were no problems. what do you guys think? have any of you guys used the regular filter?

The small filter will fit, but I would rather have the big PCX filter. I I had to choose between the small filter and the Passport filter. I'd go for the Passport oil filter (made by filtech) It's the same as the old filter with an Isuzu part #. Or just get the parts guy to order the PCX filters on the back of another overnight order and get the right filter the next day.

I'm in the same situation, I need to change my oil soon. I have (and have been using) the OEM honda filter (made in canada), but after reading comments from other websites, it seems the Canadian ones are made by Fram
I didn't know you could get the OEM (made in Japan) filters here in the US...if so, what is the part number for ordering? Also, I was considering the HAMP filter as an alternate--anyone know where to get these (since Speeding's GB is over)?
thanks, and good luck with your decision Razor

I recently did an oil change and I used a K&N filter (No. HP1004 I think). It is the same size as the OEM it replaced. Very small.

Didn't xviper or someone do a bit of a study of oil filters recently? Should look that one up.

No, it wasn't me. I did several oil analysis with different filters and they all came out to be well within acceptable limits.
The S2Ki store sells the new OEM filters for about $6.00.

Anyone know who it was that pulled apart a range of oil filters and did filtration tests.

Here's a link to one oil filter study. The thing that I find interesting about the analysis is that the author recommends the Mobil 1 and K&N filters while saying not to use the Bosch, STP, and Wal-Mart Supertech filters. Despite what the author may think, all of these filters are made by the same manufacturer, the differences being filter media and other minor things.

Here is a link to another oil filter study. Although it is not specifically related to the filters that we use on the S2000, I have found that the analysis is better than the aforementioned study.

Unfortunately, both of these studies were performed before we were able to get the Japanese S2000 oil filter in the US. Unless I see information proving that another filter is better, I'm going to stick with the "new" Japanese S2000 filter.

Another thing to remember is that there is a bunch of marketing involved here. For example, Champion Industries manufacturers the Mobil 1, Bosch, STP, K&N, Wal-Mart, and probably more brand oil filters. There are probably just two or three other manufacturers that make the vast majority of filters that are available on the market. Any one of these brands has a probability to switch to another manufacturer when their contract is up, so keep an eye on what you decide to purchase.
