Default Oil Pump on Turbo'd S2k

I just bought an UR turbo kit for MY02. My buddy that does all my work, and will be doing my turbo install didn't know about the strength of the oil pump on s2ks. He says that on other "lesser" hondas, he has had to put in new oil pumps with FI applications, but he thought that because the F20C was built to run to 9000, that it would have a stronger oil pump than normal hondas. What'd ya guys think?? Thanks for your help.

Jonathan,

i asked the same question a while back and the general consensus was that its fine for FI applications.

I worry about anything and everything that can go wrong with my engine(why did I turbo my car ) so if there was an upgrade I would probably go out and buy one anyway but as theres not I'm ok for now.

Dont know if this helps at all!?!

Andy

I think the answer top your question is a question...Does the oil pressure drop when you are boosted???????
If no then why bother????

On the "lesser Honda's"(it should read: "cheaper, but faster Honda's"), most people run stock oil pump gears. Alot of the race cars run them too. One example is the Jotech Civic. Many people went with Pro Drive oil pump gears and many have shattered these too. The main cause of something like this is an unbalanced bottom end. Lightweight crank pulleys are also no good. I've used stock oil pump gears w/ stock crank pulley on all my turbo setups on my "lesser Honda's" for 4 yrs. now with no problems. I will do the same if I decide to turbo the S2K. The stock oil pump should be fine. If you have a higher mileage S2k, I would replace the oil pump w/ a new stock unit. Stock oil pump gears work fine and you should have no problems. Good luck.
