Anyone know of a good machine shop in the northeast Arkansas area. May need exhaust valve guides replaced.

Can you crack retainers or do any other damage if you go from 2nd to 1st and never let the clutch out??

Just curious because I did that when i first got my car 2 years ago, but I realized it before I left the clutch out and just put her in neutral and coasted for a while before stopping.. Car never gave me a problem and runs like a bat out of hell, but after reading this thread the memory has came back to haunt me.. Lol

Also, no over revs or mis-shifts, just that little particular incident which I'm pretty sure was harmless since I never let the clutch out.. But I'd like confirmation from Billman just for piece of mind..

I'm not Bill, but I can tell you that this will not overrev the engine. The overrev ocurrs when the car is travelling at a given speed such that when the clutch is engaged, the swheel speed will overdrive the engine speed. For example, if max rpm in a given gear gives you 70MPH and you engage that gear (while rolling with clutch engaged) at 80MPH then the engine will be spun up to 80/70 of max rpm. If max rpm in a given gear gives you 40MPH and you are going 50 and shift into that gear and let the clutch out, you will back rev the motor to 50/40 times max rpm etc. The rev limiter cannot limit the engine speed when the engine is being driven by the wheels.

Since you never let the clutch out, you did not overrev the engine.
