Default possible rod knock?

http://s12.photobucket.com/albums/a237/Boo...nt=8d093661.flv

My setup:
Full race gt3076
9:1 CR Laskey/benson sleeved block
Supertech valvetrain.
I ran Castrol GTX dino oil about 1k miles ago

Its sounds worse in the cell phone video. Nonetheless it's the noise my motor is making.

I took a stethoscope to it and that noise seems to be louder near the intake side, right under the #4 runner (by the wall). It's really pronounced when I put the needle on the thermostat housing.

I also pulled the plugs this morning and found lots of oil on plug #2. I can also see oil when I look down into the spark plug hole.
here's some crappy cell phone pics:
1-2-3-4

4-3-2-1

Whats the diagnosis doc?

and what are possible solutions?

Thanks in advance for any info

somebody please tell me that it goes away when you swap the TCT!

Paul

That definitely does NOT sound like the TCT. Sounds no good.

It's a rod or main bearing.

If you see lots of oil on the #2 plug and cylinder (not to be confused with a leaking well gasket: plug oily on outside and coil pack tip oily) you have a worn piston/rings and its piston slap.

thanks guys. I checked again and I did find oil running down on the packs. So I guess the oil issue is solved, I'm going to check the oil for flakes.

Could it also be something in the valve train?

I'm going to pull the cover to inspect anyways.

All your input is greatly appreciated, thanks!

I believe Billman is correct, it's difficult to be 100% without seeing it in person but with the oil issue and the pitch/tone of the noise very much sounds like Piston Slap.

Well if there's no oil in the cylinder itself then slows2k may be right.

Either way it's not good you can set each piston midway in the bore, put a wood stick on top that sticks out of the spark plug hole. Move the crank barely back and forth. If you know what you're looking at, you can find which cylinder, if any, has play (rod/piston)

I can tell you that noise is severe enough that it won't be easily fixed.
