Default Price sound fair?

So I called a local shop that I've decided to try out after they've shown me some of their builds. I asked them for an estimate for a head gasket replacement. I got quoted about $1350. That includes:
  1. Replacing the head gasket
  2. Machining the head
  3. Valve job
  4. Parts and labor

Does this sound like a good price? They haven't built any boosted s2000s yet, but they've worked on many FDs, Supra MKIVs, swapping a 2JZ-GTE and Sr20Det's into Nissan hardbodies, and various other jobs. The main mechanic (also the owner) seems to know very well what he is talking about and is a very friendly guy, offering to keep me informed, step by step with what's going on.
Also said that he can have the job completed in about 5-7 days at the absolute longest.
Just wanted input as to your opinion on the price vs the work being done.
Thank you.

Where you are is relevant...

What does machining the head mean? If this means maybe trying his hand at an improved head porting...I would say you don't want to do that.

But, all in all, sounds fair.

I'd estimate pricing to be a bit more seeing as I'm in Hawaii.
No no, just redecking the head basically. Alright, thanks for your input.

Going for a built bottom end? I've heard good things about the fullblown headstuds if you're going for big power.

My bottom end is sleeved, upgraded pistons and rods too for lower compression. How are they for about 450-500, or should I stick with new OEM ones?
And no, I can't see it but I think I blew my head gasket, coolant leaking into combustion chamber.

I would be weary about machining the head surface, unless you want permanent TCT problems. It should be professionally checked for straightness, and left ALONE if so.

But your price, if done properly, does sound respectable.

I just rebuilt my whole head. Let me know if you want me to refer you to someone.
