Default Problems with the Stick Shift

I live in Va...and the past couple of days it's been pretty cold...about 15 to 35 degrees. In the morning when i start my car...my stick shift is really stiff...i dont know if it is frozen or what...it took me about 20-30 min just to get it back to normal...what i would do is shift it up and down so that it would loosin it...back and forth in the neutral area...and so on...it took for ever. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem...or any suggestion on how i could fix this.

Assuming you don't have something mechanically wrong with your gear box ................
It's really cold. Fluid gets thick. The stick stiffens up. This is no surprise. That's just the way it is. There is no need to sit there and "work it loose". Driving it will heat it up faster. You simply just need to shift it slower and more deliberately when it's stiff from the cold. You can't possibly expect it to work the same way as it does in the summer. The same applies to all the lubricants in your car.

Now, in case you really do have something wrong, have you seen this:

Dave, don't you get tired of explaining to these sunbelt types about the effect of cold temperature on petroleum-based lubricants? Or are you just enjoying the righteous sense of turnabout being fair play?

I'm a glutton for punishment. I read these threads, go thump my head against the wall for a while. When I stop, it feels so good that I respond.

I hope to meet with you next July. You'll see that I'm really quite a dyck and you'll never figure out how come I do what I do here.
