Default Quiet, really quiet exhaust ??

I'm driving down the street today when I see this Big Black Supra come up behind me. First thing I noticed was the huge front mount intercooler. I stopped at a light behind another car and the Supra changes lanes and stopped ahead to the right of me. I noticed his Big 6" exhaust tip but couldn't really hear anything (my top was down too). I guess he sees me looking cus He boned out when the light turned green, turbo spooling, blow off valve.....blowing....but the weird thing was I didn't even hear his exhasut

So I'm wondering, Can they make a free flowing exhaust system that wouldn't be loud at all?

This guy had a nice looking Supra very stylish and by the way he took off, very fast. I wanted to catch him and ask him about the exhaust but he was long gone before I could get around the car infront of me.

A few resonators and a straight through with lots of padding maybe?

I've seen turbo cars that have a nice quiet smooth exhaust, but you could always hear it a little at least..

Say, you don't happen to have a monstrously loud exhaust that drowns out his, do you?

For starters turbo cars are generally quieter than NA cars, because of big torque they can push tall gears and run low rpm's. Honda's buzz around like mosquitoes to get similar power.

Also turbo's Muffle the exhuast note. You don't need as much muffling to keep an exhaust quite when you have a turbo. For instance on volvo 240's. The Na model came with 2 mufflers. (resonator and mufler) on the turbo models, they only had one mufler and the note is exactly the same.

this is 100% correct. the turbo will baffle the exhaust noise. Try taking off the exhaust on a NA car and on a turbo car. The NA car will be barely tolerable to ride in, while the turbo car will have a very nice exhaust note

True, yes and no. Turbo cars are quite becuase the turbo takes away from the exh noise, like they stated above.. however, when you say "run low rpm's," you have to be taking about small turbos... larger turbos dont start spooling till 4500 rpm, and the power goes with the turbo spooling. so i guess it is true they're not revving like b16s or f20's, but their turbos still do have to spool to make the power..

Superchargers don't use the exhaust for driving themselves, they're driven off the crank. Therefore, you must run an exhaust with acoustic design similar to naturally aspirated engines.
