Default Rattle when top is down.

I tried running a search but was only able to find info about rattles when the top is up. I have an '04 with about 45K miles, and recently when the top is down the right side rattles when I drive on a bumpy road or hit small bumps. When I inspected it (basically lifting on the top a bit by hand when its down) there seems to be more "slack" on the right side than left. The noise is not coming from the latches which are tight and locked into position.

Is there any way that I can tighten any of those allen bolts (screws?) to reduce the slack and stop the top from bouncing so much which causes the rattle? I also noticed that one of the bolts is a standard phillips head bolt, is this an adjustment bolt?

Some guidance would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Arun

there was a post awhile back where the guy put felt sticky pads on the metal parts of the roof that touched when the top was down. try to search the s2000 talk forum, i think it was there.

don't know about the phillips head screw.

I had problems with the "hook" flopping around. Even though you latch them, they can rattle a bit over small bumps. Double-check that.

That's probably what it is.

There is 1 contact point while the top is down. There's a possibility the plastic coating has been worn through causing the rattle.

With the top still down try raising it up a bit so it's not all the way down. If the rattle goes away that's definitely the source of the rattle.

Same here, small felt-dot on each at the rattle point did the trick.
