Default Re-Centering Steering Wheel

I recently got my turn signals fixed at the dealer and the tech who repaired my car slightly placede the steering wheel back on slightly off-centered (i mean it is barely noticable, but i'm anal so...).

does anybody know how to re-center it by doing it yourself at home?

When you had your repairs done, if the steering wheel was taken off, then put back on slightly off-center by the tech, I'd take it back to the dealer and have them take care of it. You *could* take the steering wheel off yourself and reposition it, but rather than risk messing it up, I'd recommend taking it back to the dealer.

Also, when did you last have an alignment done? My steering wheel was slightly off at one point, and they were able to straighten everything out when they did the alignment.

If it really was their fault, then have them fix it. But an alignment tech should be able to get the wheel straight also.

If the wheel is crooked because it was removed, then it should be fixed by re-positioning the wheel, NOT by doing an alignment. If you fix it with an alignment then the steering will be mis-aligned.

You can try to verify if you have an alignment problem or wheel postion problem with this procedure:

Drive the car as straight as possible on a flat level surface (driveway or parking lot). Hold the wheel perfectly still and stop the car with the wheel in the "straight ahead" position. Put some tape at exactly 12 o'clock on the steering wheel and then turn it to the stops in the left and right directions. At each stop, put another piece of tape at exactly 12 o'clock. After you've marked both limits return the wheel to the straight ahead position (first tape at 12 o'clock). Both your "limit tapes" should be at equal distances (angles) from the "straight ahead" tape. If they're not the alignment is wrong. If they match, the steering wheel is postioned incorrectly.

well, like i said before i had a problem with my turn signal where it wouldn't release back into normal position after turning left. so, i had the dealer replace the part that fixes that. would that require the steering wheel to be removed in order to fix that?

The part replaced is a turn signal cancelling cam. The alignment wasn't effected by removing the steering wheel. You need to pull the airbag and steering wheel off, and turn the wheels position on the steering shaft splines to line it back up.

If the wheel is off 1 spline, it's about 10deg at the wheel.

Bring it back. Don't mess with the alignment when the problem is obvious.
