Really bad exhaust smell?
Hi all, new here. Just got an S2K about 2-3 weeks ago and it has a really bad exhaust smell. It smells as soon as I start the car and doesn't really get any better as it runs. We initially thought it may be because the prev owner didn't put premium but even after a full tank of 93 it still does it. Also, the car has kind of just been sitting since its been raining a lot these past few weeks, and It's just been in the garage, so I don't know if maybe I just need to run it more. Is some exhaust smell normal? and if not, any suggestions on what to check or do? thanks.
Car is a 2001 ap1 with 74k miles.

It's a exhaust smell, not a gas smell.
I just assumed it has a cat. maybe it doesn't. It's fully stock though so it should. I will get under there and have a look.
Do these cars usually have some exhaust smell though? I have actually not driven another S2K so i have no comparison.

A stock S with no problems shouldn't smell at all. It actually has ULEV certification, ultra low emssions vehicle.
Its likely either a tp in place of the cat, or bad cat. Note, its possible to mount stock cat shields to a tp, so it looks stock. So make a careful inspection.

Check to see if you have cat. For cel no won't get check engine light if they have spaces for 02 sensor. I had the same problem on mine find out there was no cat on it but no cel. Good luck

The older ap1/F20 are notorious for burning oil, couple that with a TP and your going to get some unpleasant stink. As a new owner, make sure you check your oil usage after every gas fill up until you get a bearing on how much oil your particular engine uses. Just keep tabs on it.
